The city of Cavaillon hosts a selection of eighteen costumes by fashion designer Christian Lacroix made for Georges Bizet's opera, Carmen.
The exhibition held in the grandiose setting of the Grand-Couvent chapel stages the dresses of the main characters of the opera: Carmen's dresses, of course, of her friends Mercedes and Frasquita, then of middle-class women and cigar-makers. Impressive Spanish dresses, loose, airy, twirling, with large frills and long fringes, all in shades of red and pink.
