Zoos have conducted successful programmes to reintroduce about fifty species of animals into the wild, including the Brazilian golden lion tamarin, the Arabian oryx and Mauritius pink pigeons.
There is considerable cooperation between European zoos, who exchange or give each other animals without applying any financial value so that reproduction can be optimized.
