In 1294, Charles II of Anjou was already coming to Nice "to spend the joyous days of the carnival". The beautiful city has made it a world-famous event. The Nice carnival today puts to work thousands of volunteers ; in 2005 over a million spectators watched the festivities, which brought in 1.685 million euros.
