The Stud Farm of Uzès is one of 21 national stud farms. Its construction started in 1972. At the time of its acquisition by the Ministry of Agriculture, the property was comprised of old buildings that have been conserved and converted.
In the past, three stallion banks had operated in the region: Arles (closed in 1859), Perpignan (closed in 1927) and Ajaccio.
Following the closing of these stallion banks, horse breeding in the South of France - Mediterranean basin was divided up between the stud farms of Annecy, Rodez and Tarbes. Then, regionalization was put in place, justifying the creation of the stud farm in Uzès. |
The Stud Farm of Uzès today serves three regions: Languedoc-Roussillon, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur and Corsica, covering a total of 13 departments.
The stud farm is laid out over a surface area of 16 hectares. The site has many structures: 3 stables, a big riding ring, two sandpits, a combined forge-woodshop, garages, a storage pool for watering and a laboratory for artificial insemination. |
