Cucuron is a tiny village in the Luberon Regional Nature Park located 26 kilometres from Apt and 37 kilometres from Aix-en-Provence.
Set on the southern slope of the Luberon mountain range and to the north of the Aigues valley, the delightful little village of Cucuron lives all year round, as much in winter as in summer. The village even has a cinema in addition to its grocery store, inevitable tobacconist, two bakeries, a butcher's, a hotel and bars and restaurants. These latter can be found around the splendid Bassin de l'Étang pond on the main square pleasantly lined with two-hundred year-old plane trees.

Lovers of old stone will not be disappointed. The village of Cucuron dates from before the 11th century. You can admire its medieval ramparts with their gates and towers, including a belfry from the 12th to 16th centuries, the Notre-Dame-de-Beaulieu Church (13th century), the Romanesque chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir that was altered and expanded in the 17th century, aristocrat's houses and the ruins of its castle and the Saint-Michel keep, a square tower from the 14th century. From the keep, you have stunning views over the village's red-tiled roofs and the surrounding countryside dotted with no less than 200 fruit farms as well as vineyards and olive groves.
From Cucuron you can even see as far as the Sainte Victoire mountain, the Alpilles and the Alpes de Haute-Provence beloved by the writer Jean Giono. Moreover, part of the movie based on his work, "The Horseman on the Roof", was filmed in Cucuron. The village and its pond can also be seen in the film "A Good Year" with Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard.
