Wine Estate in Provence
AOC Côtes du Ventoux Wines
 |
The Domaine La Coquillade sits on a hill of the Monts du Vaucluse, across from the Luberon mountain.
Since the 13th century, generations have been producing wine here, in Provence.
It's on the flight path of migratory birds, one of which, the crested cochevis, "Couquihado" in Provençal (little cock), has given its name to the estate. |
Coming under the controlled appellation of Côtes du Ventoux, the chalky-clay soil and eastern exposure give birth to red, rosé and white wines of Provence that are fine, elegant, aromatic and hearty.
The 20 hectares of the vineyard are planted with the traditional grapes of the Rhône Valley : Syrah, Grenache, Carignan for the reds and rosé, Cinsault for the rosé, Clairette, Roussanne, Marsanne and Grenache blanc for the white. |

The nose opens with aromas of fresh raspberry and blackberry, stewed strawberries. Swirling the glass brings out notes of cinnamon and pepper, which bring complexity to this wine.
Well-rounded and supple on the palate throughout the tasting, with discreet and well-blended tannins.
The finish is supple, with the proper length, resting on notes of fresh fruit and vanilla.
Served chilled, it is quite fulfilling with Provençal cuisine like pizza with anchovies, pissaladière ; served at room temperature it pleasantly enhances white meats and slightly mature cheeses. |

Viognier
Pale yellow colour with superb, light golden reflections. This wine presents right away a great aromatic powerfulness with notes of dried apricots and pears in syrup, preserved lemons, with notes of tropical fruit and white peach coming in. Well-rounded on the palate, with a smooth start, and a nice expression of concentration. The volume is otherwise well balanced by sensations of freshness, which gives a lot of reach to the finish, on its notes of apricots in syrup.
