The ochre quarries
The ochre quarries
Pure clay (kaolinite) coloured by a pigment of mineral origins (iron hydroxide). This coloured clay is combined with grains of sand (quartz), which compose 80% of the rocky mass.

Before being marketed, the ochre must undergo several manipulations in order to extract the quartz, which does not go into the composition of ochre.
