The Mayard Vineyards, a family property for five generations, stretches out over 43 hectares in the appellation CHATEAUNEUF du PAPE, with a yield of approximately 140,000 bottles of which 5,000 to 8,000 bottles are white wine.
The estate counts forty parcels divided over the whole of the appellation, including two very big ones: a 21-hectare plot to the south of the appellation, another 8-hectare plot on the plateau of La Crau to the northeast.
The vineyard's policy is entirely devoted to ecological agriculture respecting the land and the environment, where the working of the earth is carried out through labour: no chemical weed-killer has been used since 2008. Ecological battles, using sexual confusion, against grape worms are practiced on 2/3 of the vineyard.
Priority is given to expressing the terroir through control of the yield.
"Green" work makes up the indispensable steps to managing this yield: pruning, disbudding, harvesting with green practices. |
