Avignon, crossroad of the routes of Provence...
A half-hour drive away, Saint Rémy and Baux de Provence, a tour of the Alpilles, returning by way of Arles.
In even less time, and there is the Pont du Gard aqueduct, then beautiful Uzes with its Provençal market in the main, arcaded square. On the way back why not stop at La Roques sur Cèze and Goudargues, the little Provençal Venise.
Twenty minutes and you are on the tiers of the Roman Theatre in Orange. On the return legs, make a short stop to titillate the taste buds in the wine cellars Chateauneuf du Pape, to be drunk in moderation!... Don´t forget the arena in Nimes. And it doesn´t take any longer to get to beautiful Isle sur la Sorgues and the antique dealers´ treasures, before a refreshing stop at romantic Fontaine de Vaucluse.
Three quarters of an hour, and you´re in the Luberon with its famous villages and the extraordinary ochre colors of Roussillon and a tour of Apt !
Also three quarters of an hour, and you´re in Vaison la Romaine and the Drôme Provençale...
At the same distance you have the pretty Wine Road heading towards Baumes de Venise and from high up in the towers of the château of Barroux you can see the pointed crests of the Dentelles de Montmirail and, as far as the eye can see, the plain of Venaisin County. And, if you feel up to it, why not the Mont Ventoux on a bicycle!
One hour away, the sea, the Camargue or Cassis with its rocky cliffs, and the old port of Marseille..
