Les Chorégies d'Orange in the Roman Theater

CHOREGIES D'ORANGE - ROMAN THEATER
from 9 July to 2 August, 2011

The Chorégies d'Orange
The Chorégies of Orange is today the oldest festival in France, dating as it does from 1869. But it has, over the years, kept all its originality : because of the name it bears, coming from the Greek "choreos", which thus binds it to the Greco-Latin tradition; because of the venue where it takes place each summer : a perfectly preserved Roman amphitheatre with a seating capacity for 8600 people and which has the fortune of having kept its "Wall", guaranteeing exceptional acoustics ; because of the operatic and musical mission it has given itself, which permits it to be at the head of the great French festivals and to have an incontestable international reputation.
