The Dentelles

Montmirail (Mons mirabilis) means the « admirable mountain» and this name is a right description of the place. Finely engraved by erosion, lace or dragon's teeth, the beautiful rock formations are prominently visible far across the plains to the North and the South, just like a true scupture going up to among 2500 feet. It’s the first overhang of the Alps in the Rhone Valley, but there the vegetation is typically Mediterranean, a kingdom for aromatic plants, oaks and pines of Alep. The vine, established on its sides, produces prestigious and famous wines.
You will also enjoy the Dentelles de Montmirail because of the large range of activities that they offer : stroll in typical villages perched on the mountainside, outside activities such as hiking, cycling, mountain biking, climbing. All tourist documentation is available in the Offices of Tourism of the area.

The Mont Ventoux

The Mont Ventoux is a 6000 feet high conical peak, visible from far across the surrounding countryside of Provence. Listed “Reserve of Biosphere “ by UNESCO, the “Giant of Provence” is exceptional for its flora and fauna. Became mythical because of its cars and cycles races, the Mont Ventoux is also famous for its paths, which are a real paradise for hikers. Strolling is also possible in a lot of superb villages perched on its sides.. As a "frontier Mountain", the Mont Ventoux amazes by the contrast between its southern side and its northern side.

Water

Every drop of water is just like gold ! is an old provencal proverb. In the Vaucluse area, water is abondant in various kinds: mysterious in the Fountain of Vaucluse, salted in Malaucène, moderated with Sorgues (between 12 and 13°C all year long), whimsical like Toulourenc or Ouvèze, tamed when it runs out of the fountains of our villages.

Acrobat Forest Trails
Become a lizard, an acrobat or a monkey, just for pleasure. “Accrobranche” is a very safe activity that is practiced between sky and ground in the heart of the forest.
The “acrobat forest trail” is located at the “ Plan d’eau des Salettes” in Mormoiron. It provides different difficulty levels for both adults and children managed by a professional team (state certificate).

Paragliding
The vaucluse mountains, like the Mont Ventoux and The Luberon are excellent spots to take off. Paragliding is an ideal way to discover, all over the year, forests, landscapes and fields (vineyards, orchards, lavender fields,…) , gorges, valleys in ochre or pastels colors… up from the inside of the Provence's sky.

Climbing
With quality places, different levels of difficulty, secure equipment and an all year long favourable weather… Vaucluse is definitely one of the best areas for climbing. In the heart of Luberon mountain, The “Buoux” site is well-known by climbers all over the world. The Dentelles de Montmirail is the « four seasons » spot, a magnet for climbers since the 40’s.

Cycling
Both local and foreigner cyclists will tell you the same thing: « Vaucluse is a real paradise for cycling». One of the best ways to discover our various landscapes, is actually to follow the small roads of provencal countryside. Patchwork of natural landscapes and cultural sites, Vaucluse is, for the 4 seasons, an ideal field to mountain biking on appropriated paths.
