History of Buis les Baronnies

Buis les Baronnies

Legend has it that Hannibal, the Carthaginian war leader, let his elephants drink at the fountain of Buis.

The name of "Baronnies" come from the union in the Middle Ages of the local baronies of Mevouillon and of Montauban, of which Buis was the capital. The Baronnies were joined to the Dauphine, which itself was incorporated into the French kingdom in 1349.
During the Revolution, the population, rebellious against the new government, dismissed the constitutional cleric. Buis then definitively lost to Nyons its status as an administrative capital.
