HISTORY

The Mas de La Chapelle is a Priory built by the Order of the Knights of Malta, a semi-religious and military community created in the Middle Ages to guarantee the transit and security of pilgrims going from Europe to the Holy Land. The Order had received the properties of the Templar Knights after this latter's suppression by the king, Philippe le Bel. In 1615, the domain was part of the Grand Priory in the language of Provence - today the Réattu Museum in Arles - which possessed forty-eight Commanderies and managed more than twenty thousand hectares in the region.
