The Forcalquier Market
Every Monday.
One of the biggest markets in Provence, a festival of colours and fragrances. Load up with local produce for your picnic before setting of to discover the region.
The Cathedral Notre Dame du Bourguet in Forcalquier dominates the entrance to the town, recognizable
by its big bell and belltower. It was the 1st try at adapting gothic art to this part of France.
Inside you will see a statue of Notre Dame de Montgolfière, unique in France.
The Cordeliers Convent in Forcalquier : a superb restoration in the 1960's gave it back its original air. Today the seat of the European University of Fragrances and Flavours.
The Village of Lurs : characterful village tastefully restored, perched on an outcrop overlookng the
Durance, the plateau of Valensole, the pre-Alps and the Forcalquier countryside.
The Church Notre-Dame de Lure in Saint-Étienne-Ies-Orgues : on the Lure Mountain discover the
exceptional site of this old Chalaisian Abbey built in solitude in the heart of a forested massif.
The Priory of Salagon : old benedictine abbey, today the ethnological conservatory of
Haute-Provence.
The Château of Sauvan : "Petit Trianon of Provence", a rare example of classic architecture in
Provence. The magnificent restorations undertaken have given a beautiful opulence to the buillding ; it is
an entirely furnished residence that can be visited. Vast, shaded grounds ornamented with a big fountain.
The Rotunda of Simiane : a keep dating from the 12th century that has given its name to the
village of Simiane.
The Monastery Notre-Dame de Ganagobie : a monastery built on a magnificent plateau towards
the middle of the 10th century.
