Isle
sur Sorgue
Isle sur Sorgue is a delightful little town in Provence. Its network of streams
and canals, fed by the river Sorgue, have given rise to its nickname of the ‘Venice
of the Comtat Venaissin’.
Its main claim to fame is as a centre for antiques and bric-a-brac. Its regular
weekend markets boast nearly 300 stall holders and over 500 at the special antique
fairs at Easter and on August 15th, attracting customers from all over the world.
The poet René Char was born here. There are many art galleries and exhibitions.
