Les vins du Domaine de la Royère - Oppède - Luberon - Vaucluse - France
Vignobles du Luberon - Oppède - Luberon - Vaucluse - France

History of the Domaine de la Royère

The Domaine de La Royère has been in the Hugues family for several generations. The vineyard was taken over in 1986 by Anne et Jean-Pierre Hugues and restructured. The cellar, built in 1987, produced its first vintage in 1988, date of entry of the Côtes du Luberon wines in the family of Appellations d'Origine Controlée.

After spending more than 15 years reorganizing the vineyard's vines, equipping the cellar and shaping the wines' production, today we work with a concentrated fermantation, where the land and the grapes really express themsleves. The vineyards is located on the foothills of the Luberon, along the Calavon river, on the site of a former ford, on the Via Domitia route.

Sur les contreforts du Luberon
The soils are sandy terraces of smooth gravel, easy to work, as many flint tools left over from from the Provençal neolithic era can attest.
The vines, of which the oldest are a hundred years old, stretch over 30 hectares, divided into 3 plots: the Royère, Boudougne and the Soleillan on the first hills of the orthern slope of the Luberon. They are cultivated without any weedkiller or chemical fertilizers and the yield is purposely limited. The grape varieties grenache and syrah constitute the traditional base for the red and rosé wines. The grapes carignan et mourvèdre, although in much less quantity, are always included in the blending. The white grapes grenache, clairette, ugni and rolle are particularly well-adapted to these chalky terraces, which foster a good balance of acids and sugars.
