Set out around a cloister and 17th century chapel, the museum, awaiting a total renovation, offers three big themes to be discovered: the prehistoric period, ethnography and zoology.
Its very big collection ranks it 6th amongst French museums.
On three stories, several rooms present collections devoted to mammals and birds, to mineralogy, botany, geology, paleontology and prehistoric archaeology. You can see bears, the Siberian tiger, the Canadian moose, even a prehistoric auroch or bull... and many other specimens that we are more accustomed to encountering in travel stories and tales of adventure.
The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions, workshops for budding naturalists, entertaining activities for 8-12 year olds, science workshops for students and activities based on current themes.
