In Drôme Provencale there is an extraordinary garden where you can find about two thousand eight hundred aromatic and medicinal plants scent all around you. From lavender to lime trees, thyme to rosemary or even savory, it is a real symphony of colours, smelling whild having a nice trip.
The type named lavendula has about thirty kinds. Three kinds grow up naturally in France : the real lavender, the lavandin and the aspic lavender.
When spring arrives, lavender fields are tender green : to the extremity of each branch a spike appears. This spike grows up and progressivly gives lots of flowers. The calixes develops glands with an activity of secretion which gives then, very quickly essential oils. With summer, lavender fields become blue or violine. Plants have then nice flowers of great dimension and they are here full of essential oils. The glands have finish their stocking activity. Time has come to collect very carely what nature prepared. After the collect, the field will become green grey for all winter. If it is well upkept, a lavender plantation can survive about 10 years.
From the second year, can begin the production of it and the best production is obtained within the 4th and the 6th year.
The period of flowering takes place from the beginning of June to the end of August... But careful because the periods can vary according to the altitude and the year's climate.
