It is to Joseph-Pierre Balthazar de Puget, Marquis de Barbentane, King Louis XV's Ambassador to Florence, that we owe the sumptuous decoration in the reception halls, adorned with stucco and Carrare marble, creating an exceptional setting for the rich Louis XV and Louis XVI period furniture that is still there to be admired.
The Château is surrounded by Italianate terraces ornamented with sculpted motifs, overlooking grounds planted with three hundred year old sycamores. This residence, considered "the most Italian of the chateaux of Provence", survived the French Revolution and ensuing period undamaged. It is still occupied by the Marquis de Barbentane who endeavors to guarantee its continuity. |
