Villeneuve les Avignon
On the west bank of the Rhône, at the gates of the famous city of Avignon and across from its celebrated bridge, Villeneuve lez Avignon constitutes, with its historic character, the richness of its classed sites and monuments and its privileged location, the ideal base for a visit to Provence or Languedoc. The Philippe le Bel Tower |
The Popes' Palace Towering over the city and the Rhône, near the summit of the Rocher des Doms, the Popes' Palace and its impressive high walls flanked by four gigantic towers, classed "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO, without doubt constitutes, with the Saint Bénézet bridge, the city walls, the Petit Palais and the Cathédrale des Doms the most exceptional grouping of monuments in all of Provence. All year round it is the site of regular cultural events: exhibitions, tours, concerts without forgetting the famous Avignon Theatre Festival created by Jean Vilar in 1947. With 650,000 visitors each year, the Popes Palace is one of the 10 most visited monuments in France. |

The Saint Bénézet Bridge
Legend has it that the construction of the famous Avignon Bridge is due to the ardour of a young shepherd who in 1177 came down from the mountains of Ardèche. He answered to the name of Bénézet and to the calling of his God. Historically, facilitating the crossing for pilgrims in the Middle Ages, an antique wooden bridge linked Villeneuve and Avignon. It was partially destroyed during the siege of 1226. At its height, the bridge stretched over 900 m and counted some 22 arches. Between 1603 and 1633, heavy flooding of the Rhône got the better of the edifice, leaving it in its present state, and with a song famous the world over. |

Saint Rémy de Provence
As did Vincent Van Gogh, come discover the emotions that take shape in you upon seeing the beauty of the landscapes of Baux de Provence. Saint Rémy de Provence, founded more than 2500 years ago, is one of the oldest towns in the South of France. A stroll is a must through the squares and old streets where the Provençal poets, Frédéric Mistral and Joseph Roumanille and maybe even Nostradamus, took their inspiration. Arles |
