The Gard in France

The Uzège and the region of the Pont du Gard (France)
The Uzège is like a "Little Tuscany", which stretches from Uzès to the Pont du Gard (France) : hilly landscapes inundated in sunshine where vineyards and cypress reign, small shaded squares, country châteaus and opulent stone houses, a historical heritage... A region with an incredible sweetness of life that you can visit as your wanderings take you.
Uzès, first Duchy of France
Uzès, whose historic center has been classed as a protected site, has retained its remarkable architectural heritage, which makes it one of the most beautiful towns in France. Its colorful markets, sweetly smelling of thyme and lavender, give the town the true feel of Provence.

The Pont du Gard (France)
From the ground, the inhabitants of the Uzège pulled up stones to erect prestigious monuments like the Pont du Gard aqueduct, and to build their houses and amazing dry stone cabins.
The Pont du Gard, in France, a majestic monument crossing the Gardon, holds the water channel of the Roman aqueduct that in the past carried water out of the Source de l'Eure from Uzès to Nîmes. Walking trails let you cover a good part of the aqueduct, 50 km long, from Uzès through the scrub land.

Beyond the Uzège
From our hamlet, you can tour this multifaceted region and visit :
* the Mediterranean Sea and its beaches (Le Grau du Roi, la Grande-Motte, or a bit farther, Saintes Maries de la Mer),
* the Cévennes (the National Park, the walking trails on the Mont Lozère or the Mont-Aigoual, the museum of the Désert, the Bamboo plantation),
* the Gallo-Roman monuments (Nîmes, the arena, the Maison Carrée, Arles, Orange, Vaison la romaine),
* the bull's country (Nîmes, Saint Gilles, the Camargue, Arles),
* and other remarkable tourist sites within an approximate 60 km radius (Avignon and the Popes' Palace, Baux de Provence, Aix en Provence and its music festival,...).

Taste the produce
To discover the scents of Provence and the regional products, you just must visit the Saturday market in Uzès. On their stalls, local farmers let you discover the olive oils, regional wines, goat's cheeses, free range chickens, sausages from the Cévennes, herbs of Provence, lavender...
Each year in January, Uzès hold its truffle market : producers and gourmets meet around the black diamond.
To try the local produce, come meet the producers in their wine cellars or cooperatives, their oil mills or cheese cellars.
